Jon Stewart går till attack

TV-serien "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" är ett program som driver med de senaste vändningarna i den amerikanska publiken. Det är inte bara hejdlöst roligt, utan även intelligent: faktiskt tar programmet upp företeelser som de "riktiga" nyhetsprogrammen missar. Den här artikeln beskriver hur programmet var det enda som tog upp att talet som Iraks premiärminister Allawi höll i USA nyligen inte var något annat än ett kampanjtal för Bush. En undersökning visar att de som tittar på programmet är mer välinformerade om valet än personer som läser tidningar, och har i genomsnitt betydligt högre utbildning än till de som ser på O'Reilly Factor.

Jon Stewart har även skrivit en bok som toppat försäljningslistorna de senaste veckorna. I den skriver han bland annat "The role of a free press is to be the people's eyes and ears, providing not just information but access, insight and most importantly context." När Jon Stewart blev inbjuden till CNN:s debattprogram Crossfire förväntades han antagligen dra några skämt och göra lite reklam för sin bok, men istället gick han till attack mot Crossfire för att ha misslyckats med sin uppgift. STEWART: No, no, no, no, that would be great. To do a debate would be great. But that's like saying pro wrestling is a show about athletic competition.
